Studies on parent-child relationships show that a loving father is as important as a loving mother in promoting the social, emotional, and cognitive development and functioning of children. Compared to children with uninvolved fathers, children with engaged, loving fathers are significantly more likely to do well in school, have healthy self-esteem, show empathy and pro-social behavior, and avoid high-risk behaviors like drug use, early sexual behaviors, truancy, and criminal activity.
Fathers First is a large group of Head Start fathers and father figures who have combined efforts with local agencies to make a positive impact on the community and lives of our children! Or mission is to support Responsible, Engaged, and Loving Dads! We host father-child events, educational workshops, and provide support services to enhance the fathering experience. We have a great time together so plan to take part. You will be glad you did! For more information, call (573)443-8706, ext. 1057.
