Many low-income families are trapped in the cycle of poverty resulting in little hope of achieving a better life. They have the potential and the desire to become advocates on their own behalf concerning issues affecting their lives, but may lack the knowledge and the know-how for accessing the process.

Through Step-Up to Leadership, CMCA addresses issues of self-esteem, empowerment and the “rules” of the process. Step-Up to Leadership is a 12-week curriculum that provides the resources and training for an individual to become a leader. CMCA identifies individuals living on a low-income budget who are interested in public service be that non-profit boards of directors, public committees or even public office. Upon completion of the Leadership curriculum, individuals will be prepared to serve their community in a completely new way.
In addition, community organizations have the opportunity to identify potential leaders to help lead in the success of their mission and vision.
